Mentor Info Session
Behind every Path to College student is a mentor who chose to show up, listen, and believe in what’s possible.
Our Mentor Information Sessions are designed for individuals who are curious about stepping into that role and want to better understand what it truly means to guide and support a student on their journey to college. During these sessions, you’ll gain a clear and inspiring overview of Path to College, including how we equip students with the tools, resources, and support needed to access higher education and graduate with little to no debt.
You’ll also learn what mentoring looks like in practice. From building meaningful relationships to offering encouragement, accountability, and real-world perspective, we walk you through the role mentors play in shaping student confidence, decision-making, and long-term success. Just as importantly, we explore how mentorship becomes a two-way experience, one that not only transforms a student’s life, but deeply impacts the mentor as well.
These sessions are an opportunity to ask questions, hear real stories, and determine if mentoring is the right fit for you. If you are considering becoming a mentor, attending an information session is the first step in understanding the commitment, the purpose, and the lasting impact you can make.
Because when you choose to mentor, you are not just supporting a student’s path to college. You are helping them see what is possible for their future.
Mentor Training
Mentor Training
Becoming a mentor is one of the most meaningful ways to create lasting impact. It is also a responsibility that requires preparation, awareness, and intention.
At Path to College, we serve students who are navigating real and often complex challenges as they pursue higher education. Our students are resilient, driven, and full of potential, but many come from low-income backgrounds and face barriers that require thoughtful, informed support. That is why we require every mentor to complete a Mentor Training before being matched with a student.
This training is designed to equip you with the knowledge and confidence to step into your role with purpose. You will gain insight into the experiences our students face, learn how to build a strong and supportive relationship, and understand how to guide your mentee through challenges while encouraging their growth and independence.
We also outline the expectations and requirements that come with being a Path to College mentor. These guidelines are in place to ensure that every mentor-mentee relationship remains safe, consistent, and impactful. From communication practices to program participation, you will leave with a clear understanding of what it means to show up for your student.
We know that mentoring can feel unfamiliar, and even a bit nerve-wracking, for both mentors and students at the start. This training is here to remove uncertainty and replace it with clarity, connection, and confidence.
Before Mentor Match Day, this step is essential. Because when mentors are prepared, students are supported in the way they deserve, and that is where real transformation begins.

Mentor Mingle
Mentor Mingle
Mentor Mingle is where connection begins.
Held during student orientation, Mentor Mingle offers a unique opportunity for mentors to step into the Path to College community before they are officially matched with a mentee. It is a chance to see the program in action, experience the energy of our students, and witness the relationships that make this work so meaningful.
During Mentor Mingle, mentors observe how students engage with one another and with staff, gaining a deeper understanding of the environment their mentee will be part of. Mentors are also able to speak directly with students, building genuine connections and engaging with them on a more personal level. These conversations offer a glimpse into each student’s personality, aspirations, and perspective, helping mentors feel more connected to the mission and the young people they will soon support.
Just as importantly, mentors have the opportunity to connect with one another. Whether you are new to the program or returning for another year, this is a space to ask questions, share experiences, and build relationships with a community of individuals who are equally committed to making an impact.
Mentor Mingle is designed to help you feel informed, inspired, and ready for what comes next. By the time Mentor Match Day arrives, you will not only feel prepared, but genuinely excited to begin your journey alongside your mentee.

Mentor Match
Mentor Match
Mentor Match Day is where everything becomes real.
After completing training and preparing for the journey ahead, this is the moment mentors finally meet their Path to College mentee for the first time. It is the beginning of a relationship that will grow over the next three years, rooted in trust, guidance, and shared commitment to the student’s future.
During Mentor Match Day, mentors and mentees connect through thoughtfully designed activities that make introductions feel natural and meaningful. These moments allow mentors to learn more about their student’s personality, goals, and aspirations, while also giving students the chance to feel seen, supported, and excited about the journey ahead.
Mentors and mentees also take time to establish clear communication expectations, exchange contact information, and begin building the structure for a relationship that is not only impactful, but consistent and dependable. With guidance from Path to College staff, both mentor and mentee leave with a strong foundation and a clear sense of what comes next.
This is also the day you step into a role that is deeply personal. You become the person you may have needed during your own college journey, someone who listens, encourages, and offers perspective. You become a trusted adult, a sounding board, and a steady presence your mentee can rely on. Over time, you become more than a mentor. You become part of their story, a source of support they can lean on, and a relationship that can last far beyond the program.
Mentor Match Day is more than an introduction. It is the start of a partnership that has the power to shape confidence, open doors, and change the trajectory of a student’s life.
