With the firm belief that students with high academic aspirations from overlooked communities need targeted guidance along the path to college, we recruit committed professionals to encourage our students, hold them accountable, and help them achieve their goals. Our mentors fill a necessary role and make a huge impact on the life of a student. We pair highly driven students from communities of extreme challenges with local professionals. This ongoing relationship provides the one-on-one foundation of support that is essential to the success of our students in their pursuit of higher education.

OUR IDEAL MENTOR IS…

an experienced and committed professional, local to SouthEast Florida, who wants to help a student open their mind and reach their potential.

We fearlessly clear the path for overlooked students to get into the best colleges with the best scholarships. We are seeking those who believe education is the answer, who understand that the education system does not adequately provide opportunities for all. We’re seeking those who have trudged their own college and career journey, and who are ready to lift as they climb.

  • One-on-one mentoring gives our fellows a sounding board, non-authoritarian friend, and a personal cheerleader. We engage professionals who can serve as positive role models; those who will take the lead in building a friendship grounded in mutual respect, goal-setting, and self-esteem building. Interested professionals should join us during our New Mentor Info Sessions or come to an event to meet our team and learn more about mentorship. Our team will conduct an interview and after a required background screening and informational training session, mentors are matched with a student based on common interests, personality type, career or college goals, or other intuitive markers. The mentor and student meet once a week through high school graduation; most students join the academic fellowship in their 10th-grade year. Mentors receive ongoing support through communications, monitoring, and annual training sessions including college preparation guidance. Students and mentors schedule weekly meetings on their own time and can arrange to meet at a community location after school, on the weekends, or even virtually via video conference. We host a “Senior Success Night” where graduates ready themselves for launch and offer our mentors the opportunity to celebrate the conclusion of their mentoring relationship. It is our hope that after 2.5 years, both the mentor and student enjoy a lifelong connection and celebrate future victories, as well.

  • You are invited to meet our mentor program team and learn more about what it means to be a Career Coach Mentor with a Path to College Fellow. Please see our events calendar upcoming dates!

    All interested volunteers must complete an online application followed by a one-on-one interview with a leader in our mentor program.

    A level-3 background screening is required by all mentors and is provided by our partners at the United Way of Palm Beach County.

    We provide a three-hour training session to review what you legally need to know to work with adolescents, suggested relationship-building activities, review any potential challenges that may arise, and include a college readiness crash course.

    Please note: We provide ongoing individualized support, optional group or service activities, subject tutoring, and expert college advising.
